Umicore’s Horizon 2020 strategy sets out clear goals for profitable growth. The strategy targets accelerated growth and performance for Umicore, particularly in those businesses driven by the three megatrends of resource scarcity, emission control and electrification of transport.

By 2020 we aim to have:

Clear leadership in clean mobility materials and recycling

These are the areas where we are most unique, where we should be able to make the biggest difference and where we have the greatest growth potential. The drivers for all these activities remain very strong. Legislation is driving the need for electric vehicles and cleaner internal combustion engines while resource scarcity concerns are driving the push towards a more circular economy.

Double the size of the business in terms of earnings

Umicore has set as an objective to double the earnings of the company by 2020 from the 2014 basis and this was achieved in 2018 and 2019. We aim to secure our future success and sustainability by consistently investing in R&D to develop and market innovative products and services, and to ramp up capacity to meet growing market demand for Umicore products and services.

Rebalanced the portfolio & earnings contributions

To sharpen Umicore’s focus on the ambitious growth initiatives in clean mobility materials and recycling, our business portfolio has been rebalanced through various divestments and acquisitions, based on a focused investment strategy.

Turning sustainability into a greater competitive edge

Umicore has transformed itself into a pioneer in sustainability since the end of the 1990s. We now intend to translate our position into a combination of sustainability benefits and tangible business value. As an example, our Sustainable Procurement Framework for Cobalt valorizes our pioneering approach and makes it a competitive offering to our customers.
