As a global materials and technology group, we apply our specialist knowledge to offer materials and solutions that are essential to everyday life. We aim to be a clear world leader in materials for clean mobility and recycling and have turned our sustainability approach into an even greater competitive advantage. With ambitions like this, imagine what you could do?

About Rechargeable Battery Materials (RBM)

We are all on the move. Umicore’s rechargeable battery materials give people autonomy and connectivity. We are a pioneer in battery materials that give added range and performance to electric vehicles. Our materials also ensure longer battery life for portable electronics. To enable our customers to produce even better performing batteries we cannot stand still. We need to find new ways to do things, discover new solutions and develop new ideas. Which is where you come

What you will be doing

In the upcoming years, RBM will be growing significantly and as part of the RISE2030 strategy, it is crucial to continuously improve our cost structure (OpEx / CapEx) for both precursor and cathode active material manufacturing. The Process Cost Analysis Manager will play an important role to meet these objectives by :

  • Collect & structure product/process data that drive our production costs
    • Extract key information and trends from large sets of product and process data like throughputs, production capacities, scrap / material losses and consumables
    • Align and compare the data for different products, different processes and different production sites
    • Identify solutions to improve the efficiency of data collection and data management
    • Define and Set-up an efficient maintenance and management structure (governance) to allow easy use of product-process master data in cost calculations, investment files, production planning, …
  • Cost analysis and modelling
    • Lead specific projects to improve our understanding of the cost of precursor and cathode manufacturing processes
    • Identify process technology cost drivers and translate into new insights for the Product and Process Development teams
    • Interact closely with technical (R&D, Process development, Engineering) teams, Finance/Controlling and Operational teams
    • Evaluate and implement new cost analysis software and tools to streamline data collection and cost analysis
  • Reporting
    • Take part in budget exercises by providing input on product/process related data and expected cost savings
    • Report and follow-up the implementation of cost saving measures together with Operational Excellence / Finance as part of the cost reduction roadmap (RISE2030 strategy)
  • Benchmarking
    • Collect and consolidate intelligence by building an internal and external network of information sources
    • Monitor key competitors and identify new market and technology initiatives
    • Generate cost benchmarks based on the collected competitor intelligence
