Frequently asked questions and answers on careers and apprenticeships with Umicore

All open apprenticeship positions are shown on our career page.

First, please upload your complete application documents (cover letter, resume, last two school certificates, internship attestations, certificates, etc.). We regret that we are unable to process e-mail or paper applications due to data protection requirements.

Once you have submitted your application, we will get back to you as soon as possible. If all goes well, you will be invited to take our online assessment test.

If the online test provides a positive result, we would like to get to know you better. This will happen in a personal interview, to which you will be invited. If this interview is positive, there is not much standing in the way of your apprenticeship contract.

Apprenticeships are usually advertised 14 months before their start date. You can apply for a position as long as it is open.

In principle, the sooner the better; because the competition doesn't sleep, and we both want to be able to have a reliable basis for planning, don't we?

We offer attractive remuneration in accordance with the chemicals industry pay scale, social benefits such as paid leave and Christmas bonuses, as well as profit-sharing.

In addition, there are other benefits such as an allowance if you have to relocate to take up the apprenticeship, a meal allowance for the cafeteria, a commute allowance, etc.

Further training courses, such as language and IT courses, are also offered free of charge.

The required school leaving certificate – Hauptschulabschluss (general school leaving certificate), Mittlere Reife (general certificate of secondary education), or Abitur (general university entrance qualification) – depends on the vocational profile you choose. We offer a large range of vocational training opportunities.

Apprenticeships in the various fields can vary greatly, but all apprenticeships have one thing in common: the high quality of our training.

In most cases, you will first go through a basic training period in teaching laboratories and workshops. You will then be assigned to various departments, where you will have a personal point of contact who will instruct you in the essential tasks of your job. This means that you will not only learn everything that is required according to the general curriculum, but you will also get to know a lot of people and possible places of future employment. And, don’t forget: You will also go to technical school now and then. Depending on your job profile, this will either be in the form of block or phased classes. In addition, you will attend various training courses and, before your final exam, you will take an exam preparation course to help you get ready for the exam.

Depending on the job description, a stay abroad at one of our European locations may be an option. We will help you organise it and, of course, we will also support you financially.

If your performance during your training is convincing – both in the operational departments and at school – your chances of being offered a job are very good. Of course, our plans and yours have to match, but if they do, there's nothing standing in the way of being offered a regular position.

From day one, our apprentices benefit from a wide range of further training opportunities. In addition to the job-specific workshops, there are other workshops that you can attend.
