apprenticeship 2026
Nine apprentices start at Umicore in Hanau
On September 1, 2026, a new chapter in life began for nine apprentices at Umicore in Hanau. Two chemical laboratory technicians, two industrial mechanics, three female chemical technicians, and two male chemical technicians are now trading their daily school routine for an apprenticeship at the Wolfgang Industrial Park.
On-the-job training is a key component in addressing the shortage of skilled workers in chemical and mechanical trades. At its Hanau site, Umicore employs, among others, qualified young professionals in production, research and development, and maintenance. Through this apprenticeshipment, Umicore is making a targeted investment in its own next generation of talent and sending a clear signal about its commitment to securing a local workforce of skilled professionals.
“With our new apprentices, we are once again counting on motivated young talent for our chemical and technical apprenticeshipment this year,” said Sandra Müller, training coordinator at Umicore, during the official welcome ceremony. “We look forward to supporting them on their journey and offering them a solid, hands-on apprenticeship with long-term prospects here in Hanau.”
Get to know each other and get some initial information at the Orientation Day
On August 31, the new apprentices gathered at Umicore for a joint orientation day. During the event, they had the opportunity to get to know one another, ask initial questions, and receive important information about the start of their apprenticeships. Organizational matters and necessary formalities were also discussed together during this session. As a result, everyone was well prepared for their first day on the job.
Official welcome at the apprenticeship start
On September 1, the official welcome event took place, during which the new Umicore colleagues were warmly welcomed. In addition to group photos and photos of the individual job categories, there was also time that morning for personal interaction. Afterward, the trainers took charge of their respective trainees and guided them through their first steps in their daily work.
Orientation and welcome week in Herbstein
From September 7 to 11, the new apprentices will take part in an orientation and get-to-know-you week in Herbstein. The focus will be on getting to know one another, team building, and networking within the new apprenticeship cohort. This helps the group bond right from the start and ensures they are well prepared for their time together as apprentices before the daily routine of their apprenticeship in Hanau really gets underway.
