Umicore employees celebrating their anniversaries have a combined 510 years of service

  • The honorees have spent 25 or 40 years with the company.

During a festive event, 18 employees of the materials technology and recycling group Umicore celebrated their service anniversaries together with their families. Fourteen of them have 25 years of experience with the company, and four have even reached 40 years.

“In an increasingly fast-paced world full of change, I am all the more pleased to be standing before you today,” said Dr. Bernhard Fuchs, CEO of Umicore AG & Co. KG, as he welcomed the honorees. “Together, you bring a total of over 500 years of experience to our company, making you a vital anchor of our success. The knowledge you have gathered during this time—and continue to gather—is invaluable, and I encourage you to share it further with your colleagues—this multiplies our expertise and helps us move forward.”

Together, the long-serving employees took a trip down memory lane at the event, revisiting their early days at the company—specifically the years 1976 and 1991. Along the way, a few anecdotes brought back memories. “It’s amazing how time flies,” said Silke Bäckmann, a marketing administrator who has been with Umicore for 25 years. “I can still remember my first day here exactly, back when I was an industrial clerk trainee. Some of my former ‘training classmates’ are still here, and I’m very happy to see them again today in this festive setting.”

At the end of his speech, Fuchs thanked the long-serving employees: “If I calculate your total years of service in days, I am proud to announce that you have done an outstanding job for a total of around 130,000 days. Thank you for your many years of loyalty!”
