Umicore supports Hanau institutions with almost €23,000

Umicore is once again sending a strong signal of its social commitment this year: with a Christmas donation totaling €22,800, it has once again supported the Albert Schweitzer Children's Village in Hanau, Sterntaler, the Friends and Sponsors of Lamboy-Tümpelgarten, the Lions Club Hanau Schloss Philippsruhe, and the Karl Rehbein School. In this way, the company is demonstrating its commitment to the region and bringing hope and joy during the Christmas season. As every year, part of the donation comes from the proceeds of the Umicore Christmas market. This is organized in the run-up to Christmas by and for Umicore employees at the Hanau site.

“Social commitment is firmly anchored in our corporate culture. With our annual Christmas donation, we want to make a targeted contribution to the long-term promotion of important initiatives in our region. As a local partner, it is important to us to strengthen the valuable work of these institutions and secure it for the long term,” emphasized Dr. Bernhard Fuchs, CEO of Umicore AG & Co. KG, at the handover of the donations.

Family assistance

Albert-Schweitzer-Kinderdorf Hessen e. V. (ASK), an independent youth welfare organization, offers comprehensive assistance to children and young people in difficult life situations. Its services include inpatient, day care, and outpatient assistance. “This year, we will once again use the generous donation from Umicore AG & Co. KG for multi-family therapy (MFT) in Hanau and Frankfurt,” said Susanne Högler, Head of Public Relations, Sponsoring, Member and Donor Support at ASK Hessen e. V. MFT is a group program for parents and their children as outpatient educational assistance. Several families always work together in this program: in the MFT group, they work together to find solutions to problems in parenting and relationship issues under the guidance of an MFT trainer trained by ASK. “We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Umicore for its renewed donation and long-standing support,” added Högler. “This reliable partnership gives us the planning security we need to develop, implement, and expand a complex concept such as MFT.”

A break from everyday hospital life for young patients

Since 1991, the Sterntaler Hanau association has been supporting the children's clinic at Hanau Hospital. This year, Umicore's donation of €6,000 will be used to improve the children's clinic's farewell room. “The difficult hours should be made a little bit easier by a beautiful environment. We would like to thank Umicore for making this project possible with its Christmas donation,” said Christina Sünder-Kühn, 1st chairwoman of the Sterntaler e. V. support association, and Martina Buschbeck, 2nd chairwoman of the Sterntaler e. V. support association.

Support for people in need in Lamboy-Tümpelgarten

This year, €5,000 will go to the Friends and Supporters of Lamboy-Tümpelgarten e. V. Thanks to its network partners in the district, the association is reaching around 250 children and young people from low-income families and numerous elderly people on a tight budget this year. Through additional social and hardship funds for daycare centers and elementary schools in the district, the association also strengthens the participation and education of children in acute emergencies; a concern that is particularly important to the association and remains highly significant in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. “The increased energy and living costs continue to hit these people hard, making Umicore's reliable support for our association all the more important for the people in our district. A big thank you to Umicore and its employees!” said the association's chairman Axel Weiss-Thiel, his deputy Anne-Dorothea Stübing, and treasurer Wulf Falkowski.

Small changes with a big impact

True to their club motto, “The world thrives on people who do more than their duty,” the ladies of the Lions Club Hanau Schloss Philippsruhe are committed to making small but positive changes. They are involved in projects that help women, children, and families in difficult life situations, as well as institutions such as retirement homes and hospice services that need to make urgently needed purchases. “Our commitment covers a wide range of activities, from individual assistance to the promotion of social projects. We are very pleased that Umicore is once again supporting us with a donation of €800,” explained Sabine Krempel from the Lions Club Hanau Schloss Philippsruhe.

Every year, the students at Karl-Rehbein-Schule take part in an ideas competition to design a motif for Umicore's Christmas card. In recognition of the students' commitment, the circular materials technology company is donating €1,000 to the Karl Rehbein School again this year. As a thank you for this year's Christmas card motif, the artist received a movie voucher.
