Umicore is offering additional openings for apprentices and students starting in September 2022
The application period for the 2022 apprenticeship program is already in full swing at Umicore. Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the materials technology and recycling group continues to provide training at the highest level and has even managed to create one more apprenticeship position for the 2022 intake compared to last year. To secure qualified young talent for its Hanau site, Umicore is currently looking to fill six apprenticeship positions as chemical technicians, one as a chemical laboratory technician, and two as warehouse logistics specialists. In addition, the internationally active group is seeking two individuals who would like to pursue a dual-track degree program in information technology (IT).
“As a major employer in the region, we are deeply committed to developing talent to ensure a supply of qualified young professionals,” explains Sandra Müller, training coordinator at Umicore AG & Co. KG’s Hanau site. “With over 800 employees, Hanau is our largest German site, from which a majority of our business units conduct their global operations. It is also one of our main research sites, particularly with regard to clean technologies. Choosing vocational training is an important milestone in life, and we are pleased to lay the foundation for a sustainable future with an apprenticeship at Umicore.”

Orientation Days – New Apprentices Help with Tree-Planting Campaign in Herbstein
After a year-long hiatus due to the pandemic, all new Umicore trainees gathered from September 13 to 15, 2021, for an orientation seminar at the Herbstein Holiday Village in the Vogelsberg region, in compliance with current health and safety protocols. Traditionally, this gathering takes place shortly after the start of the training program so that all trainees in the same cohort have the opportunity to get to know one another and truly settle in at Umicore. In addition to team-building workshops and activities designed to strengthen the sense of community, they are provided with important information and helpful tips for their time in the program.
In line with the new sustainability strategy “Let’s go for zero,” the Human Resources department came up with a special initiative this year. Umicore gifted a tree to every trainee at the start of their training. To preserve the canopy of the forest playground and Bible park in the Vogelsberg village of Herbstein, the company donated one tree for each new trainee. Thanks to its long-standing connection with Vogelsbergdorf, Umicore immediately agreed to support the urgently needed tree-planting initiative. “Our trainees were thrilled when they opened their welcome box and received a certificate for their very own tree,” adds Sandra Müller.
