Umicore donates 5,000 euros to the pediatric oncology department at the University Hospital of Würzburg
The Precious Metals Chemistry (PMC) division of the materials technology and recycling group Umicore is donating 5,000 euros again this year to the Würzburg Parents’ Initiative for Children with Leukemia and Cancer. The fight against cancer, especially in children, is a priority for PMC..
“The dedication of the medical staff, the hospital’s doctors, and the parents’ group is truly impressive,” says Michael Schwarz, Director of Global API Business (PMC) at Umicore AG & Co. KG. “That is why we are delighted to be able to provide direct assistance—for the eighth time—to children with cancer and their families with a donation of 5,000 euros.”
For many years, Umicore AG & Co. KG in Hanau has supported the Würzburg Association of Parents of Children with Leukemia and Cancer (Elterninitiative leukämie- und tumorkranker Kinder Würzburg e.V.) in caring for and supporting children and adolescents with cancer and their families. In addition to numerous other services, the association now provides 13 apartments for parents near the hospital. Here, parents and relatives can stay overnight free of charge while their children—both young and older—undergo treatment. This year’s donation of €5,000 will be used to furnish the recently rented “aftercare apartment.” In the future, this apartment will house families from abroad who cannot return home during the aftercare period due to the distance.
The Würzburg Parents’ Initiative for Children with Leukemia and Cancer has a long-standing and close relationship with the pediatric oncology department in Würzburg and supports the young patients, their families, their social circles, and the hospital itself. In addition to inpatient care at the hospital, this includes care and support for all those affected and their families at home.
The PMC division is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of highly active, metal-containing, and organic active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for cancer treatment.
