The materials and recycling group Umicore is donating 24,000 euros to three non-profit organizations in Hanau: Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village, Sterntaler, and Friends and Supporters of Lamboy-Tümpelgarten.

Hanau, December 9, 2016. The materials technology and recycling group Umicore continues its long-term and regional support of charitable initiatives and presented this year’s Christmas donation to three Hanau-based organizations at a joint donation ceremony. The Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village in Hanau, the Friends and Supporters of Lamboy-Tümpelgarten, and Sterntaler received donations totaling 24,000 euros.

“With our donation, we want to show how important it is to work together. Each of these organizations makes an important contribution to the community in its respective field,” explains Dr. Bernhard Fuchs, CEO of Umicore AG & Co. KG. “It’s great to bring three such diverse organizations together, exchange ideas, and support the region as a team.”

Umicore has been supporting the Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village in Hanau since 2009. The company’s Christmas donation will once again benefit the multi-family therapy program. As part of this program, a “welcome class” for refugee families was launched this year at the Brüder-Grimm-Schule in Hanau. The collaboration between the school and youth services creates transparency from the very beginning, allowing children to see that their parents and guardians are taken seriously and integrated into the culture and structure of school life. “We are very pleased that Umicore’s donation will allow us to continue our multi-family therapy work. This enables us to make integration a tangible reality for these families through new projects like the Welcome Class,” explained Katja Eisert, facility director, at the donation handover.

The “Friends and Supporters of Lamboy-Tümpelgarten” association is also delighted to receive support from Umicore. As in previous years, half of the donation was collected by Umicore employees during the company’s Christmas market and then matched by Umicore. Umicore has been supporting the association since 2011; the donation enables the association to fulfill Christmas wishes for disadvantaged families in Hanau-Lamboy—such as urgently needed winter clothing for children.

Another donation goes to Sterntaler, the association supporting the children’s hospital in Hanau. In the past, Sterntaler has already achieved many successes that make children’s hospital stays easier: improved facilities in the pediatric clinic, ensuring parents can stay with seriously ill children, child-friendly design of patient and treatment rooms, a playroom, and a 24-hour outpatient clinic.
