Umicore and the Hanauer Anzeiger hosted a business breakfast
On September 28, 2022, Umicore hosted this year’s Hanauer Anzeiger (HA) Business Breakfast. Dr. Bernhard Fuchs, Member of the Executive Board of Umicore AG & Co. KG, joined Yvonne Backhaus-Arnold, Editor-in-Chief of HA, and Monica Bielesch, Editor at HA, in welcoming approximately 60 guests from the local business community, political circles, and associations. As is tradition, the latest issue of the HA magazine “Wirtschaft an Main und Kinzig” is unveiled at the Business Breakfast..
In keeping with the business magazine’s theme, this event was held under the motto “Sustainable Business,” and Umicore—a local company for which sustainability is at the heart of everything it stands for and does—could not miss the opportunity to participate.
An economy without sustainability? That’s not possible! Especially not in 2022. That was the unanimous consensus at the business breakfast hosted by Umicore.
That is why many of the guests were delighted when Dr. Fuchs began by providing an overview of Umicore and explaining why the circular materials technology company is such a sustainable enterprise. The focus was primarily on highlighting the areas in which employees in Hanau conduct research, development, and operations, as well as the sustainable initiatives that have been implemented at this location to date.
Hanau’s Mayor Claus Kaminsky used this comprehensive overview in his subsequent speech to highlight the importance of sustainability—and particularly of sustainable business practices—for Hanau from his perspective.

In the panel discussion that followed, Dr. Christian Hagelüken, Director of EU Government Affairs at Umicore, Erika Schulte, Head of the Hanau Economic Development Agency, and Martina Butz, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Hanau, discussed how sustainable business practices can work. Dr. Christian Hagelüken took the opportunity to explain to everyone present what the circular economy truly means and how important it is at both the regional and global levels. Erika Schulte, Head of Hanau Economic Development, and Martina Butz, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Hanau, picked up on this and shared their perspectives on how various measures in the region help everyone act more sustainably together, thereby contributing to the conservation of resources and the environment.
Afterward, the lively discussion continued over coffee and snacks, with attendees exchanging ideas and getting to know one another. At the end, everyone was able to take home a copy of the freshly printed “Wirtschaft an Main und Kinzig.”
