16 apprentices are looking forward to their training at Umicore in Hanau

On September 1, 2020, the 2020 apprenticeship year kicked off at Umicore AG & Co. KG. The globally active materials technology and recycling group is offering a total of 16 apprentices the opportunity to complete aporenticeshipment in the chemical industry. In addition to six chemical technicians and six chemical laboratory technicians, four industrial clerks are being trained at the Hanau site.

“We are very pleased to have welcomed six more apprentices this year than last year,” says Sandra Müller, apprenticeship coordinator at Umicore. “It is important to us to offer people from the region secure and exciting professional opportunities with excellent career prospects.”

A week before the official start, all new Umicore apprentices received a welcome package containing informational materials, writing supplies, masks, and other goodies. In compliance with strict hygiene and social distancing rules, the training program began today with a personal welcome, an opportunity to meet the trainers, and a photo session.

Alternative Learning Models

Against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, Umicore quickly adapted its approach to ensure that apprentices continue to receive high-quality, content-rich, and practical training. In collaboration with apprenticeship partner Evonik Industries AG, all apprentices were therefore equipped with iPads to ensure that homeschooling via the vocational school and trainers is available at all times. Digital learning platforms combined with on-site practical experience will continue to be an integral part of apprenticeshipment at Umicore.

Application period for the 2021 training start

Applications are now being accepted for an apprenticeship and the dual study program starting in summer 2021 at Umicore. Unlike in the past, many interviews are now conducted digitally via video conference. The recruitment test will also be conducted entirely digitally in the future.
