Materials technology made in Hanau

Regional website Germany

Hanau is a major economic hub in the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main region, with a focus on materials technology. That is why Umicore, together with other companies in the region, the City of Hanau, and the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is committed to raising awareness of what materials technology actually entails and how diverse and forward-looking careers in this field can be.

Curious? Then why not watch the video right away?

We all come into contact with materials from Hanau on a daily basis. They can be found everywhere—for example, in smartphones, cars, medical products, and coatings.

In recent years, Hanau has developed into an attractive city with a high quality of life, offering numerous professional and personal opportunities, particularly for STEM professionals. The city will soon surpass the 100,000-resident mark, making it Hesse’s smallest major city.

The Frankfurt/Rhine-Main metropolitan region has traditionally been a major hub for the chemical industry, and  Hanau is home to some of the world’s leading companies in this sector.

Umicore also operates its largest German site in Hanau, from which a majority of its business units manage their global operations. In addition, the site is one of Umicore’s main research centers, particularly with regard to clean technologies (automotive catalytic converters, battery recycling, and fuel cells).

We are pleased to further raise Hanau’s profile as a materials technology hub through Umicore’s participation in the “Materials Technology. At Home in Hanau” campaign.
