Hanau stands together

Regional website Germany

February 19, 2021, marks the anniversary of the day when nine people were taken from this life in a matter of minutes as a result of a racist terrorist attack. To this day, this act continues to leave us speechless and is almost impossible to put into words.

One year later, the entire city of Hanau stands united—against racism and xenophobia, and in support of democracy, diversity, and freedom.

In memory of the victims of the racist attack, we at Umicore, together with other companies in the region, are taking a stand for peaceful coexistence. That is why we have jointly launched a large-scale poster campaign in which employees from Umicore, ALD, Evonik Industries, Goodyear, Heraeus, and the Employment Agency are showing their faces—for diversity and against racism. These posters can be seen, among other places, in front of the Wolfgang Industrial Park, clearly visible from Rodenbacher Chaussee 4 and at the intersection of Rodenbacher Chaussee and Aschaffenburger Straße.

In addition to the poster campaign and a newspaper ad, Umicore employee Imran Orak contributed a video message for the digital memorial, https://www.hanau-steht-zusammen.de/. Imran lost his second cousin Ferhat Unvar in the attack and made it clear in a statement that racism has no place in Hanau.
