City of Hanau Sustainability Award 2021

Once again this year, the City of Hanau and the Hanau and Region Sustainability Network are announcing the 2021 Sustainability Award. Applications may be submitted from March 28 to May 31, 2021. A new addition this year is a special category for private initiatives, which recognizes private and sustainable engagement. The jury is looking for projects in which private individuals have, for example, transformed their garden or balcony into a butterfly paradise or are sustainably involved in an association or institution.

The Sustainability Award is presented in three categories. Submitted projects must be significant for Hanau and the region. The materials technology and recycling group Umicore is once again sponsoring the Jury Prize with 6,000 euros in prize money. A jury will review all submissions to select the three best innovative and sustainable projects that have previously lacked the funds for implementation. With the prize money, Umicore enables these projects to be realized in the region.

Sparkasse Hanau is donating the prize money of 1,000 euros for the Audience Award. The focus here is on sustainable projects that have been successfully implemented. Voting for the three best projects takes place online.

The City of Hanau is sponsoring the Media/Creative Award, worth 1,000 euros. This award recognizes sustainable, creative projects involving theater, film, and similar fields that have been successfully implemented. In this case as well, voting for the three best projects takes place online.

99 applications for the City of Hanau’s Sustainability Award have been submitted in recent years. The projects ranged from the design of public spaces, biodiversity on school grounds, and the installation of nesting aids for birds and bats to social and sustainable engagement in youth groups.
