Can you describe your role/position at Umicore?
I am the global controller of the Business Unit Precious Metals Management, as well as head of customer service of the business unit at our site in Hanau. Our team ensures the worldwide supply of precious metals to our customers and all our Umicore sites.
What do you like about your job?
Since Precious Metals Management is in contact with many Business Units and sites, one automatically builds up a worldwide network of colleagues.
Likewise, due to the complex topic of precious metals, I am involved in many different projects and inquiries in which spontaneous problem solving or optimization are often needed. Therefore, it never gets boring.
Why did you want to work at Umicore?
During my school days, I completed an internship in Hanau. I was impressed to see how intensively Umicore took care of its apprentices and how many of their products one can find in everyday life. So I applied for an apprenticeship to experience how such a large company works, and I was accepted!
The time then flew by and I was able to gain new insights in different areas every three months. After passing the final exam, it was clear to me that I wanted to remain a part of this company and I was even more enthusiastic when I received a job offer, which paved my future way.
What do you look forward to when you set off to work in the morning?
To a diversified day - normally no day is like the other. I also enjoy the pleasant working atmosphere with my colleagues and my supervisor.
What has been the highlight of your time at Umicore so far?
Umicore has opened many perspectives for me in my career so far. I owe this in particular to my superiors and to Umicore’s HR culture, which enables every employee to develop their professional talents and personal strengths.
Any advice for newcomers?
Don’t be afraid to actively engage with your new team. When you have ideas that will help Umicore move forward, there will always be someone listening to you.
