About Umicore
Powering the cars of today and tomorrow. Reducing harmful emissions. Giving unique properties to high-end applications. Giving new life to used metals. As a global advanced materials and recycling group, we develop, produce, and recycle materials for a better life.
About Corporate Research & Development
Driving progress through research. Providing material solutions for the world’s most pressing challenges and anticipating the needs of our customers requires a high level of investment in research. Umicore’s Group Research capabilities focus on new materials and processes to address the megatrends of resource scarcity and clean mobility. The nature of research and development means that we cannot stand still. We need to find new ways to do things, discover new solutions and develop new ideas. Which is where you come in.
What you will be doing
Our Computational Science Team in Hanau (Germany) and Olen (Belgium) works in the areas physical-chemical simulation, computational fluid dynamics, AI and machine learning, and materials modelling. We translate latest simulation technology into industrial application. In this way we accelerate Umicore’s research and development, help to tailor our products to customer requirements and make our production processes more efficient. We achieve this through close collaboration with external research partners, for example the Umicore research lab at TU Darmstadt.
- Translate recent simulation/machine learning technology into better models. Together with our product/process experts apply models to find better designs faster.
- Improve the chemical fidelity of our CFD Simulations, apply to guide product/process design.
- Collaborate with experimentalists to ensure that our models provide a realistic description of our products/processes.
- Proactively interact with other departments to initiate new projects.
Who we are looking for
- Master´s Degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
- Strong background in chemical process simulation, ideally acquired through an excellent PhD thesis in this area.
- Programming experience for example in Python, Matlab or C++
- Expertise in CFD (reactive flows, catalytic processes, chemical reactors), ideally Open FOAM and FLUENT
- Ideally background in catalysis
- Fluent English language skills
- Analytical thinking, problem solving, strong drive to bring numerical research into productive application.
- Good communicator, strong interpersonal skills
If my research can help tackle some of the world´s most pressing challenges - IMAGINE WHAT YOU COULD DO?
We look forward to receiving your application!
