Regional Engagement
As a donation and sponsorship partner, Umicore supports a wide range of regional initiatives and is active in numerous networks.
Sponsorship activities

True to the motto “Committed together,” Umicore has been supporting the voluntary engagement of its employees outside the workplace for many years. As we are convinced of the importance of volunteering for society, we also want to contribute to the diverse commitment of our employees in the region.

Physical activity and team spirit are at the heart of the sports initiatives among colleagues at the Hanau site, which also contribute to supporting numerous initiatives and events in the region. Whether it's Umicore employees participating in the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge or cycling together for the “Stadtradeln” campaign.
Donation Activities
Umicore Christmas Donation
For many years, the annual Christmas donation has been a key part of Umicore’s social commitment in the region. By supporting various local initiatives – such as the Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village in Hanau, Sterntaler, the Friends and Supporters of Lamboy-Tümpelgarten, or the Lions Club Hanau Schloss Philippsruhe – we help people in difficult life situations. Employees are also part of this initiative, as their participation in the annual internal Umicore Christmas market makes a visible contribution to the total donation amount.

Our vlog series #wirbewegendieregion highlights the immensely important work carried out by our donation and sponsorship partners.
Networking Activities
ESD in Hessen: Sustainably Connected – Hanau and the Region
Under the motto “Sustainably Connected,” the network was launched in 2014. Since then, many partners from a wide range of sectors have joined, including Umicore. As part of the “Sustainability Strategy for Hessen,” the network focuses primarily on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). The long-term goal of the network’s work is to raise awareness among the regional population about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and related sustainability topics such as climate protection, sustainable consumption, health, nature conservation, and energy.
Materials Technology Made in Hanau
Hanau is a key business hub for materials technology in the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main region. That’s why Umicore, together with other local companies, the City of Hanau, and the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), is committed to raising awareness of what materials technology entails and how diverse and forward-looking careers in this field can be.
