Umicore celebrates Family Day and its 20th anniversary in Hanau with 1,900 visitors
Under the motto “20 Years of Umicore – Always on the Move,” the circular materials technology group Umicore opened its factory gates to all employees and their families last Saturday. Around 1,900 visitors enjoyed celebrating together and taking part in exciting tours and numerous other attractions.
Many of the employees in attendance were already part of the team back in 2003 when the Belgian company Umicore took over the precious metals operations of the former Degussa. Together, they have achieved a great deal over the past 20 years, and the Family Day was a welcome opportunity to show families and their guests what activities Umicore carries out at the site and what the workplace of, say, a mother or father looks like. That’s why the tours of various production and laboratory areas were particularly popular.
But the Umicore cinema, where the trainees presented a film they had made themselves, the precious metal bar sale, a raffle, the photo activities, and the charity bikes—where people could cycle to support two social causes in Hanau—were also well-attended throughout the day. The Kids’ Lab and the Hanau Environmental Center invited the young guests to participate in exciting experiments, and in addition to other fun activities for all ages, refreshments were of course provided.

Mayor C. Kaminsky cycles for a good cause
Dr. Bernhard Fuchs, a member of the Executive Board of Umicore AG & Co. KG, was overwhelmed by the large number of visitors and the high level of interest on site. “It’s wonderful to see the pride and joy with which our employees show their families around their workplace. Many of our colleagues were therefore both guests and hosts today and contributed to the Family Day with great dedication. With this Family Day, we also want to thank our employees and their families for their years of commitment to our company’s success.”
Hanau’s Mayor Claus Kaminsky also accepted Umicore’s invitation, visited the festival grounds, and spoke with employees. “For 20 years, Umicore has remained loyal to the city of Hanau and operates its largest German site here with more than 900 employees. It’s wonderful to see how research and development into sustainable products and solutions has evolved from Hanau over this time. Umicore is one of the key employers in Hanau and, through its corporate and social commitment, helps make our region even more sustainable.”
