Umicore awards Jury Prize at the Hanau Sustainability Award 2025
Recognizing Commitment to a Sustainable Future
Umicore once again supported the presentation of the Jury Prize as part of the Hanau Sustainability Award. The award ceremony took place on June 30, 2025, at the Hanau Amphitheater and honored, for the ninth consecutive year, outstanding projects that are passionately committed to a sustainable future in Hanau and the surrounding region.
As sponsor of the Jury Prize, Umicore provides a total prize fund of €6,000. With this, the company once again sends a clear signal of its commitment to regional engagement and sustainable development.
“Sustainability needs people who lead with dedication. These are exactly the people and initiatives we want to highlight and support with the Jury Prize. The award winners impressively demonstrate how much impact local engagement can have.”
Katharina Brodt, Director Site Services at Umicore
The applications for the Jury Prize impressed with innovative approaches and a clear commitment to the United Nations’ sustainability goals. Three initiatives were honored for combining creative ideas, strong commitment, and concrete implementation plans:
1st Place (€ 3,000): Vogel- und Naturschutzvereins Großauheim e.V.
With the project “Insights into the Nursery of Kestrels, Owls, and Bats,” the association aims to provide fascinating live-streamed views into the rearing of these animals using wireless cameras, making nature digitally accessible to schools, families, and citizens. Permanent ecological nesting opportunities are being created in Hanau-Großauheim. The project uniquely combines environmental education and species protection.
2nd Place (€ 2,000): Turnerschaft 1860 e.V. Großauheim
Through the project “Nature-Oriented Garden,” the club is planting and sowing native plant species to create new habitats for insects, birds, and small animals. At the same time, it establishes a space where movement, nature, and community coexist in harmony. This project shows how sports clubs can become active contributors to sustainable urban development.
3rd Place (€ 1,000): Printable Design
Under the motto “Transforming Through Walls,” the Printable Design team brings the 17 sustainability goals to life through creative murals in collaboration with local artists, schools, and sustainability initiatives. Using low-emission wall printing and imaginative designs, sustainability is made visible on public surfaces throughout Hanau.
