Umicore's Christmas donation to charitable organizations in Hanau
As part of its annual Christmas donation, the circular materials technology group Umicore donated approximately 25,000 euros to the Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village in Hanau, Sterntaler, the Friends and Supporters of Lamboy-Tümpelgarten, the Lions Club Hanau Schloss Philippsruhe, and the Karl-Rehbein-Schule in Hanau. The donation check was presented by Dr. Bernhard Fuchs, CEO of Umicore AG & Co. KG, last Monday at the Hanau Christmas market.
“It’s wonderful to see how these local initiatives can help people facing difficult circumstances with our Christmas donation,” said Dr. Bernhard Fuchs. “For many years, this has been an integral part of our social commitment in the region. I would also like to particularly highlight the involvement of our colleagues in Hanau, who clearly contributed to the donation total through their participation or their visit to the Umicore Christmas market.”
Family assistance in the region
“Supporting social projects, even in times of crisis, is not a given. That is why we would like to express our special thanks this year for Umicore’s donation of 10,000 euros,” said Katja Eisert, facility director of the family-oriented division at the Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village in Hanau. “Umicore has been a reliable and strong partner supporting the Children’s Village for many years. This is invaluable to our work. This year, we will use the funds for our multi-family therapy program in Hanau and Frankfurt, which we aim to expand to provide professional support to even more families and connect them with one another, so they can develop new solutions to their own family problems through this approach,” explained Susanne Högler, Head of Public Relations and Sponsorship at the Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village Hanau, Wetzlar, and Hesse e. V.
A donation for the youngest among us
6,000 euros will also go this year to the Sterntaler Hanau association, whose mission for the past 32 years has been to make children’s and their families’ stay at the Hanau Children’s Hospital as pleasant as possible. “Our major project for 2023 will be supporting Hanau Hospital in the purchase of a new transport incubator. This purchase is necessary because the device must be adapted to the latest standards in emergency medical services. Airworthiness is just one of many criteria that must be met. The safe transport of our youngest patients is extremely important and essential for a good start in life. Ongoing costs, such as continuing education for nursing staff, support for highly stressed parents through conversations with trained professionals, and smaller purchases like nursing pillows and small comfort gifts, must also be reliably funded. All of this is only possible because Sterntaler can rely on equally reliable donation partners like Umicore!” explained Martina Buschbeck, board member of the Sterntaler e.V. support association.
Targeted Support in the Lamboy-Tümpelgarten Neighborhood
The mission of the Friends and Supporters of Lamboy-Tümpelgarten Association is to provide targeted assistance to people in the neighborhood who are facing difficult life situations. This support benefits residents of all ages. This year’s Umicore donation of 6,500 euros will primarily go toward items of daily necessity. “We, the Friends and Supporters of Lamboy-Tümpelgarten e.V., would like to express our heartfelt thanks both to the Umicore staff for the thoughtful organization of the company’s Christmas market and to Umicore in general for its commitment to providing extensive assistance to many people in our neighborhood. With this support, Umicore helps alleviate the hardships faced by children, families, and elderly residents who are in dire straits, especially in these increasingly difficult times—truly a joyful Christmas message!”
Aid for Children and Women from Ukraine
The Hanau Lions Club has set itself the goal of supporting various institutions in need in Hanau and the surrounding region, as well as in Third World countries and disaster-stricken areas. “This year, the Umicore donation of over 1,400 euros will benefit children and women from Ukraine. In light of the humanitarian crisis, donations are currently more important than ever there,” explained Sabine Krempel of the Lions Club Hanau Schloss Philippsruhe.
In addition, the Karl-Rehbein-Schule received a donation of 1,000 euros in recognition of providing the design for this year’s Umicore Christmas card and the students’ involvement in the project. The artist and student Dilara Safak, whose design was ultimately printed, was presented with a movie ticket as a thank-you gift.
