Umicore encourages employees to switch from cars to bicycles

Since the beginning of the year, Umicore employees have been able to choose a new leased (e-)bike as a company bike and have the lease payments deducted from their monthly paychecks. In doing so, they’re doing something good for their own health and, at the same time, making a significant contribution to climate protection.

The number of leased e-bikes is growing across Germany. This practice has now also become established at Umicore’s Hanau site.

“At Umicore, employee health has been a top priority for many years. Not least, the well-being of our employees is a key component of our ‘Let’s go for zero’ sustainability strategy. Those who ride a bike instead of driving a car combine fitness with sustainable mobility. We want to encourage this through our company bike leasing program,” says Andreas Kinkal, deputy chairman of the works council.

To date, more than 100 bicycles have been ordered, 103 of which have already been handed over to colleagues.
