Umicore employees donate to the Hanau outpatient hospice service for children and young people
This year, Umicore employees once again donated their spare change to a good cause. In the so-called “spare change campaign,” they voluntarily donate the amounts between one and 99 cents on their pay slips. These amounts add up to a significant sum over the course of a year. Umicore traditionally tops up these donations. This resulted in a total of €2,500 being raised for 2024.
At Umicore, it is a tradition that the spare change donation benefits a different charitable initiative in the region each year. The Hanau Works Council has decided that this year's donation will go to the Hanau Outpatient Children's and Youth Hospice Service (AKHD). Since 2015, the AKHD Hanau has been supporting children, adolescents, and young adults with life-shortening or life-threatening illnesses, as well as their families. Around 60 volunteer hospice workers support them in their everyday lives, organize self-help groups, and offer discussion groups. The service is free of charge for families and is largely financed by donations.
Ralf Müller and Andreas Kinkal, works council members at Umicore AG & Co. KG, visited the AKHD Hanau to hand over the donation. In conversation with the representatives of the AKHD, Ms. Schwanebeck and Ms. Laugalies, they were deeply impressed by the dedicated work of the volunteers. Umicore is delighted to be able to contribute to the valuable work of the association with this donation.
“Supporting organizations such as AKHD Hanau is particularly important to us. We are impressed by the tireless commitment of the volunteers and are delighted to be able to make a small contribution with our donation.”
Ralf Müller, Chairman of the Hanau Works Council at Umicore AG & Co. KG
