Umicore employees donate €2,500 to the association Hilfe für bedürftige Kinder in Alzenau e. V.

For over a decade, numerous dedicated Umicore employees in Hanau have voluntarily donated the remaining cents from their paychecks to a good cause. This so-called “restcent” campaign raised an impressive €2,500 in 2023, which was donated to the association Hilfe für bedürftige Kinder in Alzenau e. V. (Help for Needy Children in Alzenau).

The monthly contributions to the spare change donation vary between one and 99 cents and are collected over a period of one year. As regional engagement has always been a matter close to the heart of the circular materials technology company, Umicore topped up the collected sum to €2,500.

“It is encouraging to see how the association helps children and their families to lead a normal life, something that many of us take for granted. We are proud to be able to support the association Hilfe für Kinder in Alzenau e. V. with our spare change donation this year,” said Carsten Neumann, Head of People & Organization Hanau.

“Accepting and allowing help is not a sign of weakness, but of strength,” added Alexandra Kraft-Simon and Nicola Simon from the association Hilfe für Kinder in Alzenau e. V.

The association Hilfe für bedürftige Kinder in Alzenau e.V. (Help for Needy Children in Alzenau) was founded in 2022. However, the commitment of its members began much earlier, in 2007, as an initiative. Each school year, the association supports around 50 to 60 children and young people in Alzenau who attend an educational institution in Alzenau (kindergarten, school, etc.). The association covers the costs and pays their bills. These are primarily the costs for kindergarten attendance, lunch at educational institutions, school supplies, school trips, and clothing. Leisure activities such as music lessons or club membership fees for children in need are also made possible. This is financed by donations and proceeds from events. All participants work on a voluntary basis to help the children.
