This year, the materials technology and recycling group Umicore is continuing its long-term, regional support of charitable initiatives. At a joint donation ceremony, Dr. Bernhard Fuchs, CEO of Umicore AG & Co. KG, presented this year’s Christmas donation to the Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village in Hanau, the Friends and Supporters of Lamboy-Tümpelgarten, the Lions Club Hanau Schloss Philippsruhe, and Sterntaler e.V. The four Hanau-based institutions and associations are delighted to receive financial support totaling 28,000 euros.

“Each of the four organizations is uniquely committed to the region within its own sphere of influence. We want to provide sustainable support for this commitment and show our appreciation,” explains Fuchs. “Umicore is a company with a long tradition in the area and has strong ties to Hanau. With our donation, we are giving something back to the region from our economic success.”

Umicore has been supporting the Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village in Hanau for eight years. Since then, the company’s Christmas donation has benefited the multi-family therapy program. The therapy is aimed at families with children who have special educational needs and seeks to improve their developmental conditions through mutual support and feedback among the families. “For programs like multi-family therapy, we rely on donations and are therefore very grateful for Umicore’s support, which helps us maintain the program,” explained Katja Eisert, facility director, at the donation handover.

The partnership with Sterntaler has also been in place for many years. The organization is dedicated to making children’s stays at Hanau Hospital as pleasant as possible. Thanks to its efforts, many successes have already been achieved in the past that make hospital stays easier for the youngest patients: Improved facilities in the pediatric clinic, ensuring parents can stay with seriously ill children, child-friendly design of patient and treatment rooms, a playroom, and a 24-hour outpatient clinic.

The Friends and Supporters of Lamboy-Tümpelgarten association is also delighted to receive support from Umicore. As in previous years, half of the donation was collected by Umicore employees during the company’s own Christmas market and was subsequently more than doubled by the company. For the seventh consecutive year, Umicore is supporting the association, which uses the donation to fulfill Christmas wishes for disadvantaged families in Hanau-Lamboy—such as urgently needed winter clothing for children.

Another portion of Umicore’s Christmas donation goes to the Lions Club Hanau Schloss Philippsruhe e.V. The Lions Club supports women, children, and families in the region who find themselves in situations they cannot manage on their own or find difficult to cope with.
