Umicore donates €24,000 to nonprofit organizations in Hanau
Making a Lasting Difference for the Region
For many years, the materials technology and recycling group has supported charitable initiatives in Hanau with a donation at the end of each year. This year, Umicore is continuing this regional support and donated a total of over 24,000 euros to Sterntaler e.V., the Friends and Supporters of Lamboy-Tümpelgarten, the Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village in Hanau, and the Lions Club Hanau Schloss Philippsruhe. As part of the virtual, in-house Christmas market, a portion of the donations was collected by the company’s own employees.
“We have an exceptionally difficult year behind us. Especially in these challenging times, it is important to stick together and help people in need,” explained Dr. Bernhard Fuchs, CEO of Umicore AG & Co. KG. “That is why I am pleased that, with this year’s Christmas donation, we can once again provide targeted support to our fellow citizens in Hanau.”
Holistic Aftercare Approach for Hanau Families
Since 1991, the Sterntaler Hanau association has been supporting the pediatric clinic at Hanau Hospital. The Umicore donation will primarily benefit the new aftercare facility “Bunter Kreis Hanau.” The team of 16 staff members from the fields of medicine, nursing, social pedagogy, and psychotherapy is there when, for example, a child’s premature birth, serious illness, or accident suddenly completely changes a family’s daily life. The facility supports, advises, and accompanies affected families during the transition phase from intensive hospital care to their return home, helping them adjust to their new circumstances. “We launched in March 2020, and so far, 42 families have already been able to take advantage of the intensive aftercare provided by our facility,” says Beate Kleemann, director of Bunter Kreis Hanau. “Since health insurance companies do not yet cover the full costs of this intensive form of aftercare, we rely on such donations to offer these services to affected families free of charge.”
Humanity and Compassion
The Friends and Supporters of Lamboy-Tümpelgarten Association aims above all to show humanity and compassion to disadvantaged children, families, and older adults in the neighborhood during difficult times. The association has made it its mission to fulfill Christmas wishes and bring joy. In addition to toys, warm blankets, and weather-appropriate clothing, the wish lists of those in need also include Christmas food and treats. Umicore’s donation helps to fulfill some of these wishes.
Working Together with Families
The Christmas donation to the Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village in Hanau will once again go toward Multifamily Therapy (MFT). “We will once again use the traditional, generous Christmas donation from Umicore AG & Co. KG in the Multifamily Therapy (MFT) program this year. Due to the great success of this simultaneous work with multiple families, we will be able to expand this program starting in December 2020. The continuous development of this important work at the Albert Schweitzer Children’s Village is only possible thanks to supporters like Umicore. We therefore extend our heartfelt thanks,” stated Katja Eisert, Director of the Family-Oriented Division, and Gundula Hoffmann, Head of Public Relations & Sponsorship.
Refuge, Counseling, and Hope for a Violence-Free Life for Women and Children
At the Lions Club Hanau Schloss Philippsruhe, women volunteer with enthusiasm to make the world a little better on a small scale. Initially, the club primarily supported organizations focused on single parents and children. However, over the years, this commitment has evolved, and donations now also support schools, hospice services, senior care facilities, and youth programs. “With this year’s donation from Umicore, we will support the work of women’s shelters, which are in particular need of our financial support during these difficult times,” says Sabine Krempel of the Lions Club Hanau Schloss Philippsruhe.
