After several months of great response, the art exhibition “Verspielt? – Roulette mit der Insekten- und Pflanzenwelt”, supported by Umicore, came to an end yesterday at the Palmengarten in Frankfurt. The unique combination of art, nature, and the circular economy fascinated numerous visitors during its three-month run and drew attention to a pressing issue of our time: the alarming decline in insect and plant species.

During the exhibition, around 36,000 art lovers visited the Palmengarten and took the opportunity to engage with the exhibition's theme in an inspiring setting.

The exhibition, which opened its doors on July 18, presented various art media such as sculptures, video animations, sound art, photography, and painting by over 30 artists from Frankfurt and the surrounding area, as well as several other German states and abroad, who creatively address humanity's environmental problems.

Through the collaboration between Dr. Nadja Tomoum, the exhibition's creator, curator, and co-fundraiser, the Palmengarten Frankfurt, and Umicore, not only was special attention paid to the conservation of natural resources, but the symbolic use of some recyclable metals in various exhibits also highlighted the importance of the circular economy in today's world. The Palmengarten as an exhibition venue provided the ideal setting to highlight the interplay between art, nature, and the circular economy.

“We are proud to have supported this unique exhibition and are delighted that it has attracted so much interest,” said Dr. Bernhard Fuchs, CEO of Umicore AG & Co. KG. “With this joint project, we were able to show how art can help raise awareness of the relevance of nature and the circular economy among the general public. Raising awareness is an important step on our shared journey to protect our environment and use existing resources responsibly.”

The conclusion of the “Verspielt?” exhibition marks the end of an inspiring dialogue between art, nature, and the circular economy that has provided much food for thought. The exhibition may be over, but the ideas and messages of the works live on, and the mission to shape a more sustainable future remains.
