“Spare Change” Campaign: Umicore Donates €2,500 to the Flügelbruch e. V. Association in Hanau

True to the motto “Small donations, big impact,” numerous employees of the materials technology and recycling group Umicore once again donated the decimal amounts from their paychecks in 2021, thereby supporting a local nonprofit organization. By donating just a few cents per month, combined with a matching contribution from the company, a total of €2,500 was raised, which has now been donated to the Flügelbruch e. V. association.

Last year marked the ninth consecutive year that Umicore’s “spare change” campaign was held at its Hanau site. Employees can voluntarily choose to donate the cents from their paychecks, contributing between one and 99 cents each month. Over a twelve-month period, this resulted in a total of €1,168.74, which Umicore matched to bring the total to €2,500.

This year, it was decided that this donation should benefit cancer patients and their families. That is why Carsten Neumann, Head of Human Resources at Umicore AG & Co. KG, visited the Flügelbruch e. V. association last week.

“According to the Robert Koch Institute, nearly one in two people in Germany will develop cancer at some point in their lives. For many patients, the disease can now be cured, or its progression halted—or at least delayed. Filling this newly gained time, or the time that remains, with special moments is important, and it’s wonderful that there are organizations that make this possible and stand by and support patients and their families. That is why we are very pleased to be able to help Flügelbruch e. V. with our spare-change donation this year,” said Carsten Neumann.
