14 apprentices and dual students are excited to start their apprenticeships at Umicore in Hanau

On September 2, 2024, 13 apprentices and one dual student began a new chapter in their professional careers at the circular materials technology group Umicore in Hanau. Five prospective chemical laboratory assistants, three chemical technicians, two industrial clerks, two industrial mechanics, and one warehouse logistics specialist started their first day of work. A dual student of computer science also began his practice-oriented academic career at Umicore.

“Last Friday, there was a special atmosphere as our new colleagues started work. The mixture of curiosity, excitement, and joyful anticipation was clearly palpable. We are at the beginning of an exciting journey together, and I look forward to supporting our new apprentices along the way,” explained Sandra Müller, training coordinator at Umicore, during the welcome event at the IPW.

The day before the official start of apprenticeship, Umicore invited the new colleagues to a starter day in Hanau. This day gave them the opportunity to meet each other and take part in team-building activities, and also served to clarify all organizational questions in advance. As a welcome gift, the apprentices received useful items for starting their careers, which were sent to their homes in advance. In addition to a pencil case, pens, and a notebook, these included snacks, a sweatshirt, a polo shirt, and a gym bag to prepare the new apprentices optimally for their start at Umicore.

Next week, all new Umicore apprentices will attend an introductory seminar at the Herbstein holiday village in Vogelsberg. During this time, the apprentices will not only get to know each other better, but also take part in their first team-building workshops and activities. In addition, they will receive valuable information and useful tips on professional life that will accompany them throughout their apprenticeship.
