Can you describe your role/position at Umicore?

I work in the Research & Development department of the Business Unit Precious Metals Chemistry. There, I develop and optimize a wide variety of processes for already existing and new Umicore products.

What do you like about your job?

Due to the various projects that I am working on, my work is very diversified. I always learn something new during the development or optimization of a process, which I can later also apply to other projects. In this way, I can permanently extend my horizon.

What do you like about working at Umicore?

I have great colleagues at Umicore with whom it is fun to work together. At the same time, the work in Research & Development provides an insight into various areas. Therefore, I have a good mixture between working in the laboratory and at a desk.

Why did you want to work at Umicore?

The advertised position fulfilled exactly what I had imagined and wished for as my future job after finishing my studies. When I received the offer to work at Umicore, I didn’t hesitate!

What do you look forward to when you set off to work in the morning?

I like that every day is different. With every finding that I make, whether it is through experimenting, research or analysis, a project takes more and more form and I come a little bit closer to the final solution of the problem.

What has been your highlight at Umicore so far?

Although I haven’t been here for a long time, it is always a highlight to see new projects turn into a real concept or process. For example, I once had to develop a sample of 25g of a product for a customer, which caught on so well that we now received an order for a multiple of the quantity. Of course, I was very pleased that the customer is so satisfied!

Any advice for newcomers?

Communication is everything! Don’t be shy or reserved, but open and committed. That way it’s easier to work together and learn from each other.
