| Umicore is one of the world's leading manufacturers of automotive catalysts. What drives you to research and develop a product for so long? |

“What motivates me personally is the passion for technology and innovation. The opportunity to create something that adds real value to society pushes me to keep going. But besides that, I have to admit, what drives me most is working with the team and the customers - what solutions are there, how can we best sell our catalysts and how can we implement our ideas. In this close cooperation, many personal relationships and friendships have also grown in my almost 20 years. This is at least as important to me as the technical work and one of the reasons why I enjoy working here so much.” |
| How does legislation influence the technology in the field of automotive catalyst and where is the journey heading? |
| “New legislation has led to ever-increasing demands on research and development. This creates an opportunity for me to develop innovative technologies and solutions that not only meet the requirements but also have a positive impact on society. Worldwide, the next, stricter legislation is about to be introduced. This will come in 2025 in Europe and in the following years in the USA, China and Asia, among others. We will continue to develop new, improved technologies for this.” |
| You joined Umicore straight after your studies and have now been with the company for almost 20 years. Has it never been boring here? |
| “In almost 20 years at Umicore, it has never stopped being interesting and challenging. I have taken on many different tasks and projects over the years and each of them has challenged and excited me in a different way. I very much enjoy working with many great colleagues around the world. At Umicore there are always opportunities for personal and professional development and I appreciate the open culture of learning, the close cooperation and especially the exceptional team spirit that I have experienced in many projects and continue to experience anew.” |
