What you will be doing

In line with the Umicore Way and our Zero Harm ambition, we want all our employees to go home well and safe after each day's work. The purpose of this position is to lead the business unit in it’s further development of our safety culture. The focus is to define and implement a strategy to further develop our safety culture within the global Catalysis business group with the goal of creating a sustainable Zero Harm accident free work environment.

Your main tasks are:

You develop, organize  and lead the strategy to build a strong safety culture of the Catalysis Group:

  • You translate the Group's safety policies, guidelines and safety behaviors into a defined occupational health and safety approach with standards and guidelines
  • You ensure that the safety management system of the business units and sites is consistent with the Group's approach and effectively implemented
  • You evaluate the performance of the various existing safety programs within the business units and sites and develop proposals to accelerate the strengthening of our safety culture
  • You advise Catalysis Group management teams on their annual safety action plans and budgets
  • You lead the implementation of this safety culture change program to demonstrate our care for each of our colleagues
  • You lead and select didactic and impact tools (training materials, communication tools, sharing of best practices...) that drive the safety culture change program of the Catalysis Group
  • You review and participate in Group EHS compliance audits and follow up corrective/improvement actions by the local team
  • You establish and maintain an internal and external safety network with a view to continuously improving safety performance.
  • You monitor technological changes that could improve the efficiency of safety management systems, safety observation tours, etc.

Who we are looking for

  • You hold an advanced university degree in a technical field of study and/or psychology and a degree in occupational safety with a minimum of 10 years work experience in occupational safety, preferably in industries such as mining, metallurgy, oil & gas or chemical
  • You have a high knowledge of safety regulations, industrial hazards and risk assessment
  • You gained more than 5 years of experience in defining, implementing and leading change programs
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills in English; other languages considered a plus (preferably German)
  • You have a high level of personal responsibility, motivation and proactivity
  • You possess strong influencing and collaboration skills, and have a proven track record of your coaching abilities
  • You excel in communication and presentation as well as you show good decision making skills
